Patrick Landewe came to the Lighthouse from the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, after spending a winter in Saugerties on the sloop's maintenance crew. Accustomed to living in remote locations and working with minimal amenities, Patrick is a seasoned outdoor leader and environmental educator. As Crew Leader for the Student Conservation Association, he supervised conservation projects in wilderness locations, including the Mojave Desert of California, the eastern Cascades in Washington, and the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina. He traveled as far away as coastal Ecuador to work on a forest re-vegetation project. As Assistant Director for Trails Wilderness School, he led wilderness backpacking and rock-climbing trips in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

When Patrick is not climbing mountains or canoeing rivers, he enjoys cooking and baking. Formerly, as employee/owner of a cooperative artisan bakery in St. Louis, he baked tasty whole-grain and organic breads.

Patrick holds a masters degree in American Studies, with an emphasis in environmental history.

Since the Lighthouse re-opened in 1991, there have been seven keepers. Patrick is number eight. You can read his account of life at the lighthouse by visiting the Keeper's Log
