The Saugerties Lighthouse will be embellished with a new set of handwoven rugs to decorate the bedrooms and kitchen. The rugs were custom woven by Robin Goss, a local weaver interested in showing her appreciation. On Tuesday, June 21st, Goss presented the rugs to the resident keepers Patrick Landewe and Anna Berkheiser, who maintain the building and run the bed & breakfast. The donated rugs provide a lively accent to the historic landmark reminiscent of bygone days when the lighthouse was home to keepers of the U.S. Lighthouse Service. The lighthouse is now owned and maintained for historic preservation by the Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy, a non-profit organization, which relies on the generous support of community members such as Goss. Tours of the lighthouse are offered Sundays from noon to 3PM throughout the summer. Anyone interested in supporting the lighthouse as a donor or volunteer can contact the lighthouse at 845-247-0656 or info@saugertieslighthouse.com.
