Baby Turtle

Baby Turtle

A fisherman found a baby turtle along the trail to the lighthouse. He kept in a flower pot at the lighthouse while he fished and mulled over the idea of taking it home as a pet. He showed it to me. I reckoned it was a painted turtle based on the yellow splotches on its head and red markings along the fringe of its shell. I said that it probably wasn’t such a good idea to take it home and that the turtle would be better off returned to a safe place along the trail. I showed the baby turtle to Avalon and took a photo before releasing the turtle back into the wild. I found a shady spot along the trail beneath a willow tree and placed the turtle on a bed of green moss.
