What's with all the bass boats?

This morning at breakfast, my guests wondered why so many bass boats were zooming around on the river. The boats were out in force this morning, speeding en masse down the river with a few peeling off from the pack to fish the waters of the Esopus Creek near the lighthouse. I wondered the same thing yesterday when I counted at least a half dozen boats trolling along the creek embankments, not to mention the frequent passers-by, hurrying up and down the river. As it turns out, there’s a three-day high-dollar fishing tournament in progress. Launching every morning at 6:30 AM out of Catskill Creek, these anglers are chasing after a $25,000 cash prize.
