rare wildflower on Lighthouse Trail

Virginia, local horticulturalist and author of Village Encounters, emailed the following message:

I was delighted to spot a Canada Lily along the trail yesterday. Haven’t seen one in these parts for 20+ years. http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=LICAC

The Canada Lily is listed by the State of New York as “Exploitably vulnerable.” Species listed as “exploitably vulnerable” are likely to become threatened in the near future if factors causing their decline continue unchecked. The exploitably vulnerable category contains plants that are likely to be picked for commercial and personal purposes and affords the landowner extra protection ability.

Please do not pick these or any other plants along the Lighthouse Trail. They are best left for others to see and where they can continue to grow and reproduce.
