Storm Repairs: temporary closures

Post placeholder image

2018 – WORK COMPLETED

For safety, some public-use areas adjacent to the Lighthouse such as the riverside deck will be closed during work. Construction activity is scheduled to take place Monday-Friday, 7:00AM to 3:00 through the end of September. Weekend reservations for overnight stays at the Lighthouse should not be affected, but day-use during the week may be limited. The nature trail will remain open during daylight hours, but areas around the Lighthouse may be closed.

The major repairs include demolition of a crumbling concrete pier, replacement of a timber bulkhead, and grouting/pointing of the stone seawall. Construction activity will include operation of heavy machinery, pile driving, and pneumatic hammering.

The repairs must occur during late summer and early fall to comply with the environmental permit to protect sensitive fisheries in the Hudson River and Esopus Creek. We apologize for any inconvenience. Our primary mission is the preservation of this historic landmark, and the structural repairs will help to secure its future. We appreciate your support and understanding in this endeavor. Please let us know if you have any questions.
