A night at the Lighthouse
Experience the rustic simplicity of nineteenth-century life at the Saugerties Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast.
Open Thursday through Sunday nights year-round, the Bed & Breakfast is a unique place to relax and enjoy the seasons of the Hudson River Valley. Surrounded by water on a remote shoal, the Lighthouse is reached by walking a gentle half-mile trail. Popular activities include picnicking, bird-watching, fishing, photography, and relaxing by the riverside. There is no air-conditioning in summertime, but the breezy location cools the rooms with the aid of a vintage fan. It is heated in wintertime.
Bedrooms
There are two second-floor bedrooms, each with a double bed. Guest rooms are not rented separately, so enjoy the romantic seclusion as a couple or invite family or friends for the other room.
The West Room has windows facing south down the Hudson River and west towards the Catskills. The West Room draws heat from the downstairs stove in the winter by way of a floor vent.
The East Room, the larger of the two rooms, has windows looking east onto the river. The East Room also draws heat from the downstairs stove in the winter, and has an auxiliary stove en suite for the coldest of the mid-winter months.
For families with children, we can accommodate two extra persons with cots (furnished upon request; additional fees apply).
Linens
All linens are provided. Guests do not need to bring their own sheets and towels.
Bathroom
The first-floor bathroom is the only bathroom and is shared by everyone staying in the Lighthouse. It contains a sink and a claw-foot basin shower with hot and cold running water (but not so hot in the winter). A composting toilet is utilized due to the remote location of the Lighthouse. Instructions for its use are provided upon arrival.
Tower
The operational lighthouse tower is accessible to overnight guests throughout their stay. By way of the original staircase and a ladder to the lantern room, guests can take in the sweeping panoramic view of the Hudson River whenever they wish.
Parlor
A sitting area is available on the first floor of the Lighthouse, with windows all around. A table is available for dining. Binoculars, playing cards, and some books are available. We recommend bringing your own screen-free entertainment. This area has an old-fashioned stove which is fed by the Keeper through your stay.
Wi-Fi
Limited wireless internet access is supplied by way of an underwater cable. Please expect it to be intermittent and weak. Streaming services such as movies, sports, and online conferencing should not be expected. Please remember this is a nineteenth-century lighthouse in a remote location. If you hope to watch a movie during your stay, prepare in advance by downloading it.
Television
There are no televisions at the lighthouse. Enjoy the river scenery and take in the natural wonders!
Meals
A hearty breakfast is included with your overnight stay. For other meals, you’re welcome to carry food out to the Lighthouse. A mini-fridge/freezer and outdoor propane grill are available for guests (no stove, oven, or microwave).

Riverside Deck
The Riverside Deck is appointed with picnic tables and a propane grill. Paper plates, cups, wooden cutlery, and napkins are provided. Please note that there are no dishwashing facilities accessible to guests, and knives/cutting boards are not provided. Guests should come prepared with any accoutrements needed.
Museum
The Lighthouse features a small museum on the second floor, with artifacts and imagery from the heyday of the Hudson River and the local setting of Saugerties. This area also houses the original six-order beehive fresnel lens and a model of the original 1835 lighthouse that once stood at the station. A guide is provided for self-led tours in English, Spanish, French, and Russian.
